Where Did the Herbalist Go?
Well, you never got that response I promised to that last post “Why We Garden”. I’ll have it up in just a minute.
I disappeared for a lot of months there – a combination of things. A full, rich life is the short answer. The longer answer involves toddler care, a bursting garden, building a chicken yard, and harvesting, harvesting, harvesting. My pantry shelf is almost over full, the deep freeze is packed, and the pharmacy is well stocked (though not as well as I would like).
Yes, the garden, food preservation, and medicine making went well this year. Skullcap, Hawthorne, Sage, and Valerian Root Tincture were just a few of the friends that joined my pharmacy this summer. We have plenty of dried Lemon Balm, and even some St. John’s Wort Oil. And I learned that gardening (farming?) at this level (only about 1/8th of my yard) creates the need for a different mindset. A “Drop Everything and Harvest” feeling that gets in the way of personal pursuits, standard household chores, and this blog.
So now Winter is upon us and the Garden is almost in bed for the year. So (hopefully) I will have more time to write. I do have a time (this time, in fact) scheduled weekly for writing and herbal work. Look for more frequent posts in the future!
Is there something specific you would like to see addressed? Drop me a comment and let me know and I will do my best to answer your question!
